I am thinking about buying an iTunes gift card off a friend who got one for Christmas. I don't actually have any music or video I want to purchase for my iPod, but I actually want to use it for my mac, on the Mac App Store. I'm setting up my Mac App Store account right now.

Is there any way I can use the money off of this old iTunes gift card to purchase apps off of the Mac App Store?

You should be able to.

My brother recently used a remaining $3.xx iTS credit to upgrade his Garageband.

Credit on your iTunes account can be used on all App Stores. It doesn't matter where the credit came from.

You're welcome.
