Someone is tossing an old A1407 display and I am tempted to grab it and hook it up to my modern stuff using a TB3 (USB-C) to TB2 adapter. Looks as though the $49 Apple adapter is requried.

The display is cool looking but ~1/2 the PPI of my other displays.

Does anyone have thoughts on if it is worth the trouble?

(I could also hook it up to a my currently headless 2011 i7 Mini (Sonos) music server).

I have two of them, one on each side of my studio display, attached to my M1 Max Studio. They work fine for my purposes, mainly Office apps on one, and Creative Cloud pallets on the other. The studio display handles the design display.

Apple's display got 27-inch (diagonal viewable image size) thin film transistor (TFT) active-matrix liquid crystal display (LCD) with in-plane switching (IPS)

  • Resolution: 2560 by 1440 pixels
  • Colors (maximum): 16.7 million
  • Aspect ratio: 16:9
  • Viewing angle: 178° horizontal; 178° vertical
  • Brightness: 375 cd/m2
  • Contrast ratio: 1000:1
  • Response time: 12 ms

Judging by specs it is quite good display. In some things it is better than modern Asus
TUF Gaming VG27AQ3AZ though not as fast (doesn't matter much for most applications)

Thanks all,

Definitely sounded as though the OEM mmel2am/a Thunderbolt 3 (USB-C) to Thunderbolt 2 Adapter was required.

Bought an open box on BestBuy and applied $10 off coupon so it didn't hurt too bad.

Won't get to plug it in until next week.

Display works well only downside is that it runs on the warm side and has 3x the average power consumption compared to my AOC 27" (100W vs 35W).
