(Not an item for hardware collectors, but..)

A colleague retired and asked for help cleaning his office. I found a stack of old (1985) Macworld magazines. I'm having fun reading it, mainly for the ads. Here are some pics.

I stashed those in a box and found them again after moving. Just out of curiosity went to eBay to see their value, which seems outrageous.

Does anyone have any suggestions on estimating the real value and how to safely sell/send those? I'm in Brazil and I don't think most people here would be interested (not a single issue for sale in the Brazilian version of eBay or used bookstores).

thanks
Rafael

Hi Rafeal,
I think a resonable price would be original cover price plus shipping and handling and then 5 to 10 dollars on top of that.
If you still have them let me know. Thanks, Karen

I still have these from buying my 128k Mac in September 1984.
They are in top notch shape, stored.
No idea their value.

4 dollars plus S&H plus 10 dollars on top of that? It is too low, I've seen it for US$ 420 plus S&H.
Anyway I will probably keep it or donate to a local university's computing museum,

Também tenho algumas revistas MacWorld dos anos 90 - a diferença de qualidade, conteúdo e quantidade de anúncios
comparados aos tempos atuais é inacreditável.

In any case, I do not think they are worth much unless one is talking about the very first numbers following the launch of the Mac in 1984 - just keep them to yourself or give them to a local library interested in them.

I've got a pile of old MacWorlds myself - though only a fraction of what I once had, and nothing from the '80s.

The value of these are highly variable - from worthless to $1,000 depending on the issue and condition. Most are not worth much. I think people are willing to pay some money for an issue especially meaningful to them (to display alongside a particular Mac model, for example). And of course the very early issues can be valuable. The eBay prices can be very inflated though. If you look around locally you can often buy old Mac magazines at thrift stores or garage/estate sales for essentially nothing.

The shipping problem is, obviously, weight. Look at what people are charging to ship those!!! If you really want to try and make money off them, you could try throwing them up on eBay, but the international shipping from Brazil is going to be pretty expensive...

Exactly. But for most other situations, you can enjoy the nostalgia simply by flipping through the magazines on the Internet Archive. I think that keeps the value of most of the issues pretty low.
