Just took daughter's 13 inch MBA 2011 to get checked out at Apple Store as screen was getting coloured lines and rainbow effect when touching/moving or pressing back of top lid.
Daughter removed her password before giving MBA to me to take to store so there was a blank ie no password on it - Genius said it was not repairable as LCD may need replaced and they did not support her MBA as it was 6 yrs old.
Bought new 2017 version of same MBA and when I got home tonight the old MBA asks for a password when thee should be none. Whats up ?? Worried she may not be able to get her documents as she is a student and needs these for studies. Her photos and e mails OK as she can access her I cloud account but how on earth could a password be needed now when none set this morning ?

Please advise

You should be able to just select enter when it asks for a pw and that should get it unlocked. Otherwise try entering your old pw.
