Friend has an old first generatin MBP (1,1) 15". After warmed up a bit the video often gets artifacts -- horizontal lines, window parts that don't get redrawn correctly, even clored splotches.
Usually after some time it starts beach-balling and then crashes completely requiring hard-power off.
Can this be a thermal problem or more likely just a bad logic board? The two halves of case are a bit misaligned and if the screen is tilted in the right place you can hear somethig buzzing against one of the fans so i wonder if one of them is getting jammed allowing the something (the video chip?) to overheat slightly.
Would apple fix this under the $300-or-so flat rate repair?
