Hi guys I'm fairly new to the Mac world. I bout a 2nd hand Macbook from a friend the hard drive was busted. I bought a new 80GB hard Drive. I have no idea how to install OS X On it now. I have Snowleopard but it doesnt move passed a white screen and DVD not starting up. PLEASE HELP!

With the SL DVD in the drive, turn the MacBook on and immediately hold down the character "C" key. This will force it to boot from the DVD.

Alternatively you could hold down the alt/option key at boot, which will bring up the (in this case empty) boot menu. Then insert the DVD and wait a few seconds until it shows up. Then select it to boot from it.
