Old Micron Laptop Battery Issue??

I have a really old Micron Millenia TransPort and I have two batteries for it. One battery is completely broken and doesn't work whatsoever, but the other battery seems to work but doesn't at the same time. The laptop says that the battery is full but its status is "not active". How do I make this ancient battery "active" and gain portable access to my Micron TransPort? (By the way: I can run the laptop off of outlet power fine on both batteries.) Please help all you PC Users!!
