I have an old and known problematic monitor. An HP w2207h with a native resolution of 1680x1050.
I had flicker problems with my old Mac mini and always ran it at a reduced resolution. I had hoped my new M1 would have fixed the problem, but no.
When plugged into the new mini it constantly flickers, more off than on. Despite going through all the options. I finally got it to be stable at a scaled resolution of 1920, though the edges of the desktop extended beyond the monitor screen.
I thought I’d have to live with it, until I bought a cheap 6 in 1 USB type C hub. Now when the hdmi cable is plugged into the hub I get the default for monitor display screen automatically. Plugging it back into the mini and the old problem returns. No idea why.
