Right back where I started...
I know the main differences are the 90GB in hard drive space and the Dual Layer DVD as well as the .3ghz x 2 in processor speed. Question is if the old new 2.0 is $1,899 and the new 2.3 is $2,499 - I am thinking that the old New 2.0 is a better bet when taking the $ savings and pumping up the RAM and addin a better video card and additional hard drive. I am thinking that I could always add a dual layer DVD later or bettr type.

I guess what I am asking is if spending $2500 - where is the $$ better spent?
On maxing the 2.0 or the base 2.3?

I was looking into your suggestion and found out a some more info...
I called the Apple store and they told me that the old new G5s in the Sale area are 'not listed as coming with Tiger'. I was looking at the Dual 2.0 versus the Dual 2.3 so it was $1899 versus $2499 - seemed like I was going with the 2.0 easy....But
My cousin works for a company that gets Apple discounts and can get the new 2.3 for $2299 so that is muddying the water for me. The real difference now that Tiger doesn't come with the old New G5 is only $270 so it now has me leaning toward the new 2.3's.
At $400 diff I was on the old 2.0 but at $270 I am leaning more toward the 2.3.
Is my logic flawed or is the 2x .3Ghz, better video card and Dual Layer DVD worth that $270. I think it is.

the 2.3 has a quicker FSB if that helps you justify your decision.

Either way, you will have a good machine!!

Sounds like a sweet deal to me, for $270...

If you can, go with the Radeon 9650. You'll thank yourself later. For $50 more, that is a killer upgrade.

Educaton store sale price on the Rev B 2.0 dually was $1699.

Education price for the 2.3 was $2299.

I simply couldn't justify $600 more for the newer 2.3 even though
it is very attractive.

Used the money I saved and a tiny bit more to get a new Dell 2405FPW 24" HD monitor.

Don't forget you can upgrade to Tiger for 9.95 if you get the old Dual 2.0,because it is still a new unit. So the difference is really 390.

I ordered the old 2.0 on Thursday 4/28 (from Apple) and it arrived last night. Tiger was in the box but not installed. I did just learn that Amazon has them at $1899 http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/t.../103-8494372-8783834?v=glance&s=pc&n=13630031

and has a $200 rebate. http://images.amazon.com/images/P/B0002A6XCW.01.RB26.LZZZZZZZ.jpg

Depending on your state, the lack of sales tax could help. I'm in California, and the sales tax pretty much wiped out my 8% corp discount.
