Old or late?

I'm low on $$$. I need a gaming laptop that can edit movies decently. My parents said if I got the old one (note: I'm getting it for christmas) that I have to pay off $600. I just need a gaming rig that can play crysis decently, play spore, and such. Or is it best off getting an iMac? I love portability, since I move often, and go to places, and I don't lack room, Where I put my macbook (the table is only 23 feet long, and 18 inches high. And it's kinda a mess, I'm considering buying new furniture by mid 08. I got this setup in May, so I'm going to wait a little but more. Anyways. Opinions?

I have the old Macbook Pro. I can tell you that it runs spore naitively fine, and Crysis works fine on Boot Camp. I personally regret getting a MBP and wish I had gotten an iMac, but everyone's situation is different. Good luck!
