Old versions of apps still in "Mobile Apps" on Mac. iPhone too?

I see the "Mobile Applications" folder on my Mac has the older app versions still in there. Does that mean the older versions are also on the phone?

good spotting! i assume that the computer only stores these for backup purposes (iphone backs up when connected) and itunes only syncs the current version.
