I currently use my friends mac book pro and fell in love with the operating system and its other applications(xcode, ilife, ect) and decided that my new desktop for college was going to be a mac.
The classes I take are programming and graphical work(also the basics of designing 3d game simulation) and I needed a comp with a good enough graphics card(I was told the mini just cant cut it). I know the newer iMac has a better card and more hard drive but I got an offer from a friend for a 760 dollar iMac with intel c2d processor, ati 1600 graphics card, 17 inch, 160 GB of hard drive, new ilife update, and 1 Gb of ram. Will this suffice or should I raise 500 more dollars for the newer mac? Money is tight so far so that is why I am asking.

What is the nVidea equivalents of the ati 1600 card? (the professor only said the minimal requirements and said it with nVidea cards).

Thanks a lot, there are not many places I know to find answers to this(places that sell macs are pretty clueless about anything except , well selling macs).
