I've recently gotten a Graphite G4 up and running with OS X Jaguar, patched up to 10.2.8.
For my own reasons, I'm leaving this machine on Jaguar for now. I would like to get the Lynx text browser installed on it, but it seems that's not as simple a proposition as I'd like. No convenient "apt-get", and manually getting all the dependencies and compiling Lynx looks like a giant PITA. I did find some material on using Fink to help install the application but Fink, too, is dependent on your version of OS X.
There were OS X packages of Lynx released, on the OSXGNU.org website which seems to be down. It looks like the last version of Lynx that ran on Jaguar was 2.8.6 (2.8.7d9 is falsely identified on several sites as compatible). Surprisingly, there doesn't seem to be an organized archive of anything from OSXGNU. I've been Googling like mad, and to my astonishment I have not been able to find any alternative download links. Often, retrieving old software takes a little digging, but until now I've never had a situation where it had just plain vanished.
So, I am wondering if anyone would:
- have one of these old versions
- know where I could obtain it
- be able to break down what I need to do in lieu of those two options
I'm not a Linux/UNIX expert - I only know enough for basic administrative tasks, and to be honest I don't want to delve into it any further than I have to for this particular task.
Appreciate any help you can offer. Hopefully I've posted this in the proper forum.
