older mac laptops–powerbook & ibooks–6bit or 8bit displays?

I have a new alum. 20 in. imac. The only thing I strongly dislike about it is the 6 bit TN display.

thinking about picking up a used older laptop as a second, the only criteria I have for my older second computer is:

1.) Laptop
2.) 8 bit display, 14 inch or bigger

thanks...

ok, let me make this more simple, are powerbook displays 8bit?

TN or (S-)IPS?

the silence is deafening, and says a lot at the same time!

After doing some research–and it took a bit of digging–it seems that almost all of today's laptops, including macbook pros, are TN displays.

(correct me if I am wrong.)

Why is it so hard today to make S-Ips displays for laptops?
It has to be something more than just price, as price is not an object for many.
