From Australia and recently purchased the iPhone 17 Pro Max. I didn’t notice anything with the screen until I saw someone mention about it.

I checked my screen panel and I have the LG GVC panel. Any Australians here with the 17 Pro Max what display panel did you all get?

I did the white background test and I only noticed when tilting my iPhone down from me that there’s a slight colour shift from white to abit of a light yellowish-blueish-hint of green. I can barely make out it’s green but it’s very light green. I guess others have a more noticeable darker green tint than I do?

So is this normal for OLED panels to have this greenish tint when tilting down the phone? I don’t understand how we all have the same 17 Pro Max but each one could be better or worse than the other. Why not put the same panel for all the 17 Pro Max?

Should I worry about returning the phone or will it be more hassle than good as I could even get the lowest quality panel and there is only 35% of the Samsung Panels and 65% of the LG panels going around? Did Australia even get the Samsung panel on the 17 Pro Max? Will this green tint get more worse over time or it should stay the same throughout? What do you all recommend I should do? I spent so much money for this phone and feel kinda let down.

I did quick measurements of both GVC (2x) and 1x Samsung G9N panel. Both LGs objectively measured as very uniform at about the 6500k whitepoint. Of both LGs one showed the green wash more predominantly, but only when held off axis, that screen was also slightly less uniform but within margin of error.

The Samsung shows more a pinkish hue off-axis. This display I measured was also very uniform, however consequently measured a cooler (edit: warmer) tone than the LG at about 6400 - 6470 range. both measure at half brightness.

TLDR:
Both panels can perform very good, and objectively out of 3 the LG wins the measurement test. Both seem to have off axis hue changes, but LG's green is more noticeable than pink (imo).

My advice would be to keep it for a few days and if it bothers you consider a swap. You don't NEED the samsung to get a good screen.

A Kelvin value of lower than 6500 should have a warmer tone (more yellow) rather than cooler right?

If it’s true the GVC (LG Display) panels are closer to D65, then it’s technically more colour accurate.

From Melbourne here, got two 17 Pro Max, mine is Silver and my partner’s one is Orange and both are GVC panels.

Tilting it at a very steep angle exhibits a very slight green tint at the bottom of the screen, but I imagine once the display has “run in” a bit the tint may go away.

Other than that the panels look completely uniform.

Thanks you are right. Slightly warmer measurements indeed at half brightness.
