This might be an odd question, but what are everyone's thoughts on the oleophobic coating on the display of the 13 series phones?

I had used a screen protector for the full year that I had my 12 Mini, and even now I don't get a ton of fingerprints on the protector- and what few there are, wipe right off easily.

I just got my 13 Pro, and am going without a screen protector for now. I am pretty surprised by how bad it is as a fingerprint magnet on the display- even now in the first couple of days. Just using it for a few minutes, it is looking pretty bad- and the prints don't wipe off all that easily with a microfiber cloth.

Is this odd- is there not a great oleophobic coating on the displays anymore? It's just strange that my dirt cheap screen protector would be better than the actual phone display as far as this goes.

I have never found apple's oleophobic coating to be good. Any device I've ever used without a screen protector is absolutely covered in fingerprints in seconds. One of the reasons I always use a glass screen protector.

Interesting, thanks for sharing! At least I will know now that I don't just have a device that has a fault in this regard.

I am more impressed now with the coating that is on even the cheapest screen protectors. The one I had on my 12 Mini was the absolute cheapest one I could find on Amazon- and yet even by month 12, fingerprints wiped right off with one swipe of the cloth.

I’ve never used a screen protector or ever had a problem. Except when my 12 mini broke and sent it back for AppleCare replacement. The “new” phone they sent me was in a non branded box and appeared fine. Until I noticed the screen in the ear piece hole was not all the way painted black but silver in a certain light. I didn’t think much of it and just kept it. Then I noticed that there was about an inch long area by the ear piece that would always have a smudge on it no matter if I wiped the screen clean. I would have to buff it for it to go away. But I kept noticing it in the same area all the time. Upon closer inspection it appeared that area of the screen may have been wiped/covered during the screen coating process. Not very noticeable but enough to pass refurbished condition for an AppleCare claim replacement. Always annoyed me so I bought a new 13 mini. No problems now.

Not just Apple but Samsung panels included. Ironic ain’t it, tempered glass screen protector oleophobic coating lasts longer and none of my tempered glass screen protectors ever scratched. But screens always did. Lol 😂

lol yeah, what's up with that? And I will add, CHEAP tempered glass screen protectors have better coating AND don't scratch. I don't have a single microscratch on the one I've had on my 12 Mini for the last year- and as noted, that was the absolute cheapest one that I was able to find on Amazon at the time. Not top of the line by any means.

It’s completely crazy.

The great thing about glass screen protectors is they are cheap and easy to replace if needed.
