That is really unfortunate. For a second there I thought we would be free from one more horrible piece of programming.

seriously, when the SAME songs are in the SAME positions for weeks on end, why is anyone even watching.

Better question, IS anyone even watching anymore?

what happened to the say what karaoke days of my (younger) youth?

back when taht station was even mildly standable.

As long as any program on MTV features music it is doomed. MTV is no longer Music Television and therefore it has no interest in promoting music. Although TRL was a joke of a show imho.

When I was younger I really enjoyed TRL. It was 1.5 hours and they actually played all 10 video all the way through. Plus Carson was a much better host too.

I'm older now and don't even touch MTV with my remote, good memories of the show though.

They might as well have taken TRL off the air when it stopped being live... Or maybe earlier than that.

We can also blame the show for such greats as Britney, Limp Bizkit, Kid Rock, and a bunch of other washed up pop stars. I remember that show starting during my senior year of high school as a prime time show with rock bands being the focus. Then it changed and the pre teens turned it into a horrible music fest.
