Will someone please explain to me the benefit of buying a web browser like omniweb. It uses the same standards as safari as quoted on their website. Is it worth it, or can i just not imagine paying for a free thing.

I would NEVER pay for a browser, but it does have some nice features...

Block banner ads, pop-up ads, pop-under ads, and even stop image animations.

Search your entire Internet History using any word you can remember from the page.

Your voice is your passport. Tell OmniWeb what you want to do. Want to go back? Just say "Go back".
Images can always look their best in OmniWeb thanks to support for embedded ColorSync profiles.

The only web browser on any platform designed to harness multiple processors for the fastest web browsing possible.

This seems to be a big step in the right direction for OmniWeb. I have only used it a few times in the past, but now they seem to catch up with Safari.

Many interesting and useful features, but I miss tabbed browsing and it's annoying that new windows are so small! There should be a way to set the default window size in the prefs.

Generally I like to have a lot of browsers on OS X. OmniWeb is currently among the best, and I think it's OK to pay for good software. Free is nicer, though... :D

i gave it a spin last night, and it reminded me how much better i like the aqua pinstripes than safari's brushed metal skin.

on the whole it seems decent enough, but the lack of tabs is a dealbreaker. i remember reading a quote from someone at Omni not too long ago who talked about having something way better than tabs. maybe it'll turn up in v5

I haven't looked at the new version yet, but OmniWeb was my everyday browser pre-Safari, and is still the fallback of choice for times when Safari chokes, which is still far too often.

During the Mac OS X public beta OmniWeb was good and solid, since the only other choice was a beta version of Internet Exploder. However, there were too many things that OmniWeb didn't do right, such as decoding HTML to provide a correct layout.

It's still great at showing off the Cocoa framework, but Camino does it as well, for free.
