It's an icon of a LENS. Video CAMERAS use a lens as the integral part of their function.

UM...why are regular cameras still call cameras when they can shoot videos? should they be called video cameras as well?

why is the iphone called a phone when it plays music and video, podcasts, internet browsing....etc. should it be called an ipod/computer/phone/pda/tv/compass/camera/video camera & anything else I left out instead?

its called a camera because it IS a camera that happens to shoot videos.
