Hi,

I have a customer that upgraded his iPhone 4 to 4.3.5. What is the best way to activate the phone at this point? ITunes reads "there is no sim card installed in the iphone you are attempting to activate". He was previously 4.3.3 with a Gevey Sim (for Tmobile). I cannot get past the itunes logo screen with the "slide or emergency". I really dont want to jailbreak since it tethered at the moment.

So, please tell me how I can access the iPhone and get to the springboard at this stage (bypass the "there is no sim card installed in the iphone you are attempting to activate" in itunes).

Much appreciated guys.

I have a used (inactive) att micro sim, but that doenst bypass the activation screen. I assume the sim must be active. Is there another way to do it if I cant find an active att sim?

Are you sure? When I used my old att sim it works.

Yes sir...its an att micro sim that I tried. I had it laying around in my shop. I put it into the phone hoping it might get me past the activation screen, no use. Does that mean that only an active att sim can get me to the springboard? Any other way aside from jailbreak?

Only a active sim will work I guess. You can jailbreak and hackitvate it, the only way the jailbreak can not be tethered if you don't use cydia. I used to jailbreak my iphone 4 when there was only a tethered jailbreak, it became tethered after installing cydia apps, other than that it will boot up like normal except you can't use cydia.

Are you sure bro? You are saying if i perform a jailbreak but dont use cydia, the boot process should be normal?

Do not jailbreak

Hi Guys,

Tethered jailbreak will stop your safari from functioning as well along with cydia if not booted through redsnow or any jailbreak app. More over I dont know if can activate ip4 by jailbreaking . I have done that with ios 4.3.3 , not sure about 4.3.5 .

Now I had the same prob which you have mentioned 4.3.3 to 4.3.5 , no sim , no activation , I took it to a store (local mobile repair i phone specialist ) After 2 hours he gave me back my i phone with 3.4.5 installed , I was eager and checked if there was cydia installed , there was no cydia installed and Safari worked well even after several restarts, which means the phone was not jailbroken.

Conclusion: Activation can be done without sim card , without phonebook sim and without jailbreaking . Some alteration in the software is done before installing ios 4.3.5 into the iphone4.

I paid 300 INR = 6 usd for this.at Chennai India.
