My son has my D800 and there's about to be a baby (next week) and, like his Dad, he tends to wait until the last minute.

He's looking for an on-camera mike and he doesn't want any external stuff in the birthing room, so it has to be a mini-plug setup.

Nikon, Rode . . . any others he should look at? Rode seems to have a variety of models.

At least he's in NYC and can get to B&H.

I've always had great results from my Audio-Technica AT822, which has been replaced by the AT8022. With the windscreen it works wonders outdoors minimizing wind noise, broad spectrum.

Should get a decent Mic that will match up well with the excellent images of that camera :)

Previously I used a less $$ Rode model, but have been happier with the upgrade, its amazing what good audio quality can do for a home video.

It's a little big, but I'll pass it on. Thanks.

I was going to send him my AT 875R but we figured all the bother with an on-camera mount wouldn't be worth it. I've been very happy with that mike.
