I am On iOS 5.1.1 on all my devices, how to properly restore to 7.0.4 without losing data. It is jailbroken on iOS 5.1.1 and i do not wish to lose my contacts, SMS etc.

iOS 5.1.11 -> Backup Device in iTunes -> Restore to iOS 7.0.4 -> Restore back to device -> Jailbreak (After things stabilize, not necessarily today).

Does this sound like a plan ?

Should i backup, and restore from backup after updating or fresh restore? I'm just worried about losing my sms. Yes i'm female, so i sometimes require additional help lol.

Backup through iTunes, when your phone shows up in iTunes let it sync and then when that is done, right click on your phone (in iTunes) and chose backup and let it run that.

Then restore as new (fresh restore), then restore from back up. Eject from iTunes, verify that you have your SMS, then JB
