This is for on screen keyboard. In iPad OS 26 on iPad 11" M3 and iPad Pro 11" when in Safari typing into the web address text field and you hold down on the period "." key it should display web link shortcuts for .com, .net, .org etc instead It shows ¿ " .... There is a thread in apple community where someone has filed a report. This has not been fixed as of iPad OS 26 Beta 1.
This seems specific to smaller iPads that only display four rows of keys as apposed to 12.9" and 13" iPad's that have five rows of keys with a dedicated .com key. depending on what the text input field is iPad OS displays the appropriate keyboard type for the field like Email, Text, Math and so on. Something is a miss in Safari that picks the wrong one for web address field. I find having to type .com a total PITA. Granted most web sites when you type their name it will autofill .com for you but on other less common sites it does not. If a web page has a text field that you select to type into the keyboard switches to one that does show web links on long press of the period key, you'll know this keyboard because it displays an "@" next to the period key
