Lost in Space
Not sure where to post this as it concerns all my devices, so will start here.

Long time lurker with a dilemma. All of my current hardware is running just fine. However, with the latest updates (IOS 14 and upcoming Big Sur), I find myself facing some challenges. Before I generally only had one computer and phone, so updating was generally not a concern. Now I have multiple devices and not sure which way to turn.

I‘ve had Apple since 1984, but now not sure which way to go. My current hardware is as follows:

2015 Macbook Pro 15” (Mid 2015) 2.8 i7 16 GB Memory Sierra 10.12.6

2019 iMac 27” 3.0 i5 8 GB Mojave 10.14.5 (will be upgrading memory to 32)

iPhone 8 64 GB 12.4.1

Apple Watch 4 5.3.8

iPad Air 2 64 GB 12.4.1

I’ll try to keep this short and to the point. I would like all my units to be up to date. I believe I need IOS 14 to take my watch to OS 7. Also would like both iMac and MacBook to be the same.(I have avoided Catalina and IOS13 based on concerns mentioned in these forums)

I believe IOS 14 to look very promising at this point, but would wait until 14.2. Probably the last update for my Air also.

Just a few concerns:
• Wife has iPhone SE (original 12.3.1). She would be reluctant to upgrade (which I presume would be the last for her) as she doesn’t adapt well to change. With some of the changes in Notes, can I still share lists with her?

•Not real crazy about App Library or even Widgets. Can I keep the status quo on how my current setup is? I started with the first iPhone and as I get older, I like to keep it simple.

• I believe my MacBook will take Big Sur ( probably the last, which is OK as I use it now just as a backup), but what is the best way to maintain the same data on both units?

So I know that there are many knowledgeable ones in these forums that are quite good at advice. Hopefully I can get some guidance or at the last option is that I change nothing as one would say, ‘If it ain’t broke…

Thanks in advance for any assistance.

Yip.

you’ll see no difference. Witches are optional, and the app library you’ll only see if you swipe into it.

Yes with the notes. If anything, I find iOS 14.0 to be far better than any version of 13. My devices have 2 Gb of RAM, and my Safari tabs refresh far less than they did under 13. I keep my setup pretty simple, and the five widgets I have don’t get in the way. I just ignore the App Library; it’s on the last page. Naturally knowing where my last page of apps is, I don’t even scroll to it.

Some people still have problems with Mail, but it’s working far better for me under 14 than it did under 13.
