Hey guys, 2 years ago I switched to Mac and love it. I then got a iPad2 and more recently a AppleTV2. I plan on looking at the "iPhone5" whenever it is released.

My question is I only have one iTunes account and one Apple ID but I would like to be able to chat via iMessage between the devices independently. IE send messages from my iPad to my Macbook, or possibly Macbook to iPhone.

I use google talk now to keep in touch with my stay at home wife with Adium and my Android device. I worry that I will lose that ability if I go to a iPhone later this year.

You can't use Messages on the iPhone to talk over Google Chat. However, there are lots of IM apps for the iPhone to choose from. I personally use Trillian - http://www.trillian.im. It also has a very nice Mac and Windows desktop application too.

Google Chat uses the Jabber protocol - so any IM application that supports Jabber will work perfectly with Google Chat.
