One click on my mouse causing double click

Hi, a single click on my mouse is causing a double click. It's extremely annoying! I have a "The Mouse" by MacMice, and its otherwise very nice. I tried setting the double click delay to zero, but this hasn't helped. Is this simply a case of wear and tear? I've had the mouse for 2 years.
