one click trackpad not working

after battery running out, one click on trackpad not working. have gone back into system preferences and clicked on one click to activate and also secondary but still having to physically click the pad. have upgraded software, battery fully charged. any suggestions? i don't have tools to take apart.

Sorry for the obvious question, but have you tried rebooting the computer?

thanks, tried that also but still not working. rechecked the one-click is still ticked but not responding to one tap on touchpad
