My 3.06Ghz MacBook Pro just came yesterday. The hard drive squeaks once every 30 minutes and it always comes in twos.

1. Open 4 apps
2. system halt / pause (half a second)
3. click-clack
4. squeak
5. click
6. squeak

sounds like a hamster is in there chilling out. System is fine and functional on every other level. It's a CTO and I honestly don't feel like shipping it back to Apple. Think the apple store will just replace the 500GB 7200 RPM drive in the store?

What if I can't replicate it? I guess just back it up and wait for failure?

Methinks you should have a backup strategy whether it squeaks or not

don't get me started with backup strategies. I'm backing up at home and work every 15 minutes wired and wirelessly. What I don't like is the noise and halts in performance. I want it replaced now. I just hate the apple store lines.

Sigh.
