How far are we away from a single portable gadget that combines phone and computer.

Say like the 11" MBA but with phone

Apologies if this is in the wrong place

The technology for such thing already exists but MBA with phone functionality is simply unusable. The idea of a phone is that it's small enough to fit in your pocket so you can carry it with you everywhere. Essentially, you MBA is already a phone because you can make calls with it via FaceTime and other apps.

What we may see in the future is that phones become people's main computers. Basically, you have a display at home and you just dock your phone to it and it becomes a full-featured computer. ASUS already demonstrated a tablet+phone combo:

So I think the problem is the keyboard and display. They have to be big enough to be usable but small enough to be portable.

iphone 5 x 2.5 inches

MBA 11.5 x 7.5 inches

ipad 9.5 x 7.5 inches

Quite a way to go.

If only there was some kind of folding technology
