I don't know when this got put into iOS, but I think it's brilliant.
Go onto Notes, either add a new note or just use the current one. Then type something such as:
Mobile%20Photo%206%20Sep%202010%2016%2035%2049.jpg

iOS recognises anything like those bits of text as a time and date. You just select the underlined text and it pops up with a "Create Event" option, and it adds it to the calendar!

I don't know how well known this feature is but I find it so much quicker to quickly enter a date and time into Notes and get iOS to do all the work for me. Haven't tried it but it might even work in emails.
:D

Oops, how do I make the picture smaller? =/

This is useful in Mail. If you get an email with a date in it, you can just tap the date and create an event from there. Same with Safaril

This! it works w/ all native apps, I think even the sms app.
