Being able to use contact groups (distribution lists if you're on Windows). It is just maddening to me that I have to select all seven of my family members when I want to send them an email from any of my iOS devices. On my Mac I just type "family", and it populates all names.

This seems like such a basic feature, I can't believe Steve left it out. It would seem like this would be a critical feature for use in the enterprise.

I've been using the betas of iOS 5, and messenger will allow this, but mail still doesn't.

First of all, STEVE DOESN'T DESIGN EVERYTHING ON iOS. He is ONE man on a team of hundreds if not THOUSANDS of people dedicated to the design and feature set of iOS.

Secondly, I actually agree with you. We need group mail. We needed it five years ago.

I'd also like "mark all read". It sounds like iOS 5 has something like it. Hopefully it's good.

Yes...One man who has final word down to the pixel in Mac software.

Hell, I'm still waiting for multiple email signatures in iOS. It's crazy to think that we're on the 5th version of the OS and they haven't implemented this yet. "Sent from my iPhone/iPad/iPod Touch" may work for personal accounts, but doesn't exactly scream "professional" when sending from a separate business account.

There is this in iOS 5. Works very well. Much like how you could delete multiple emails before and now you have the option to move or mark as read/unread.
Is it "mark all read" or "mark selected read"? If it's "mark selected" can you easily "select all"?

Thanks!

It's "mark selected". You also have the option(if you're using a compatible account) to use flags. I do not see, however, an easy way to select all of the messages in your inbox.

Just change or delete it then...

I don't think I explained it well. I have two, and sometimes 3, email accounts on my phone - my personal Gmail account and business Google Apps accounts. I don't have the same signature for all of my accounts, but if I use the setting that Apple provides, that's exactly what I would get. And typing in a new signature every time I send a message is less than ideal. Account-specific signatures would be a great addition to iOS.

Been there, done that. Maybe they'll listen this time. :)

First of all, why get into a strop about it?

Secondly, group mail exists already - use an exchange provider.

I wish we could have multiple badges, say up to 4 (one in each corner of the mail app) could be color coded based on account. Also color coding in all inboxes would be nice

What about the most basic of features, like the ! Priority mail, still not in 5.0 that I cans see. We have flags in 5.0 but not priority (!)
Personally I'm happy it's not there. :) Too many morons at work obsessed with marking every email "high importance!"

Call me if it's that damn important.

Kind of like back in the day when every page I got was 555-555-1212-911-911!!!

You call them back, and it'd be "Hey, what's up?"

Really?

Ah, the days of pagers. :D

"Hey, stop here. I have to return this beep."

Back then "phone coverage" meant knowing where the nearest payphone was no matter where you were.

I remember when I got my first cellphone back in 1998, but still had the pager.

It was my feeble attempt at being very selective with who I contacted.

I have the same problem but I just put my work signature as the default one. I don't really care that much if my work signature is displayed in personal emails but if I don't want it then I just delete all the lines except for the first one which contains my name.

Yes You Can!

Ummm... you can do groups (distribution lists in OS X & iOS). You set them up in Address Book. I currently have two of them and they sync to my iPhone just fine.

EDIT: Added iOS bit too. I missed that OP was referring to iOS and not OS X.

neat trick

actually you can send to groups on the iPhone, here's how:

1. This is the format you use
Mom <xxx@yyy>, Dad <xxx@yyy>, Sister <xxx@yyy>, Brother<xxx@yyy>, Girl Friend <xxx@yyy>
2. copy the above into the notes app
3. replace the above names and address with real information
4. copy the text in notes
5. go into your contacts, make a new contact called Family, ect.
6. paste the info you copied from #4 into the email blank
7. save and you are done

(note, you CAN use more then 5 people per group, just use the same format)

Have to give the guy credit that found this, post number 3: http://www.ipadforums.net/ipad-faq/3835-how-send-groups-ipad-mail.html
