One of my absolute favorite things to do is just browse the MacRumors Story Archive. If you haven't been there before, or recently for that matter, I highly recommend looking at some of the classic articles and threads that came about with each update. In fact, I just spent almost two hours reminiscing at some of these old favorites...

Who could forget all these good times? Or things that might have been...

• When Apple released Boot Camp? Absoultely blew everyone out of the water. No one even saw it coming
• Like "Home on iPod" (jeez, that would have been nice).
• Or the idea of a touchscreen iPod (now that you think of it, why would it have a "virtual click wheel" to begin with?)
• Or the fact that MobileMe was conjured up a year and a half before its release.

It's also a lot of fun to then look at the comments from those threads and see what everyone was thinking back then.

On Boot Camp:

Michael Dell is pooping his pants. Right now.

Or the iPhone launch:

Did he just release 3 products at once?!

phone and widescreen ipod and internet communicator are one device!

Does anyone else ever do this? Just like to look back to see how exciting it was back then?

I do this especially at this time in the morning as nothing much seems to be happening on the forums. I like the Bootcamp comments on the article.

Home on iPod would be interesting.

Some people have hacked it to work by using iPod as external storage. However, portable media player harddrives are too slow for most people.

I like how 4 years ago we were still discussing the possibility of a headless iMac, (called a $499 headless iMac, released as a mac mini), and on release day, we were complaining about how under-spec'd it was...

how things have changed...

...or not

And people who don't know any better are still falling into the spec myth.

That's funny. I think I remember reading that thread as it was happening back when I was still lurking!

Whenever I see posts along the line of "Steve Jobs has lost his mind", I remind myself that Apple has studied the market before bringing a product to the market. Heck, I still can't understand the reasoning behind Apple TV-but there it is. And they probably have the next couple of generations road mapped.
