hello.

my macbook pro 13" 2017 comes with two ports which I think are called USB C.

I noticed one of the ports charges the laptop battery, but the other doesn't. The port that doesn't charge still works for operating an external monitor and mouse using an adapter.

any help to trouble shoot appreciated.

thanks, Jun

Try resetting your SMC.

  1. Shutdown your MacBook Air / MacBook Pro
  2. Connect the power adapter to the Mac
  3. On the MacBook / Pro’s keyboard, hold down the Shift+Control+Option keys and the Power button at the same time
  4. Release all keys and the power button at the same time – the little light on the MagSafe adapter may change colors briefly to indicate the SMC has reset
  5. Boot your Mac as usual

thanks for the recommendation cmaier. I did as you suggested, but battery still does not charge. Interestingly, the lightning symbol still appears over the battery indicator, but the batter still drains. When plugged into the bad port, battery indicator has lightning symbol and batter is shaded solid. With the good port, battery also has lightning, but battery is not a solid color.

anyone know if usb C ports have a history of such problems?
