Once again I am confused about the behavior of color profiles with mac operating system. There are, by my count, there are 18 display color profiles available to be chosen through system preferences. However one of those profiles behaves very differently than all the other. When selecting one of the other 17 color profiles the effect they have varies by application and within those applications. For example within Chrome when switching between the profiles only certain image and section within the browser window will change shade. A second example would be the desktop backgrounds, only certain ones are affected by switching between the 17 profiles, while others stay exactly the same. One final example is within VLC when switching between the other 17 profiles the GUI elements such as the menu bar and pop-up remote display visible color gradient changes but the image of the video/movie image itself stays the same through all of the profiles.

All except for one that is. The display profile name "iMac" visible changes the color values of everything when it is selected. I have not come across one instance where selecting "iMac" would not make a visible change in the color levels being displayed on screen. This has always perplexed me and I would love to finally get an answer on why that one profile works that way.
