I have always had the issue of getting signal at work, so to keep the phone from dying I turn in airplane mode. 85% of the time on my 4s and 5 it would say no signal and take forever to get a signal.

On the 5s it picks up signal instantly even if it's a weak one and u have never seen the no service come up since upgrading.

That was always a pain having to restart the device.

It really depends on you location, and are you talking wifi or cellular?

This is something I noticed on my iPhone 4 after upgrading to iOS6 - that if it loses a data signal it usually cannot reconnect without a reboot. It is only for that reason that I am getting a new phone as I would be happy enough otherwise to wait out for iP6.
