Started a long time ago with AT&T, however up until recently you could always get it removed. Now the only way is to get the NEXT program.

Sprint,

i don't ever remember seeing an upgrade fee of $35

I can't speak for sprint, but as I mentioned ATT has done that, and don't forget the activation fee as well - they like to nickel and dime you to death.

If we choose the Tmoble contract free iPhone option couldn't we then take the sim out of current 5/5s and just pop in the in 6/6+ and everything would work fine?

ok thanks, I just wanted to make sure i was not getting screwed, I didn't remember paying a $35 fee when I got my 4S a few years back.

I heard that Best Buy does not charge an upgrade fee for Verizon? Can anyone validate this?

If you're not eligible for the FAN what would be the benefit of knowing about it?

There are several I am eligible for, last I checked at least 4. Other family members the same, so would be nice to know.

If you you are eligible for the FAN then you should be able to find out what the benefits of each of them are.

The last couple times I asked the AT&T employees were less than helpful and only mentioned the discount percentage, they said there were no FAN plans that avoided the activation fee. Same when I called AT&T. Very frustrating, but oh well. I don't think any of ours have that feature, but still would like to know which ones do. AT&T has been pretty secretive about those.

Most all FAN plans waive the activation fee. I've been on a number of them over the years (Colleges, work, State, USPS etc).
