One USB port is slower than another?

Currently running

MacBook Pro (15-inch, Mid 2010)
2.53 GHz Intel Core i5
8 GB 1067 MHz DDR3

VIDIA GeForce GT 330M 256 MB
Intel HD Graphics 288 MB

I have noticed over the years that the right USB input seems to be faster than the left one?

Is this by design or am I doing something wrong / or broken?

I often load MP3s to memory sticks and over the years, thats what ive noticed.

I don't have any data as such.

Or if I was to load a video from the slow one it would take a lot longer to load in VLC

Use a benchmark utility such as AmorphousDiskMark or ATTO Disk Benchmark or AJA System Test Lite or Blackmagic Disk Speed Test to measure the difference.
