old news but someone still meet this problem.

since Apple start using L-shaped MagSafe power adapter, some guy may find the new type can't instead of their old one.

Maybe just update your firmware http://support.apple.com/kb/TS3499

there may be other reasons, just have a try.

If you run software update, the firmware update should show up.

The battery life and run times are so long for my MacBook Pro, I just finally threw away the power adapter.

I never needed it.

There was no reason to lug it around ....

If the firmware update doesn't show up in Software Update, then you've already installed it, and your computer is no longer affected.
