Posted on behalf of my son who has lost connection to net.
Hello, grateful for the distilled wisdom of the forum. Posted awhile back regarding sudden slowing of my Macbook. Initially just seemed slow to respond, a bit like a Wo
Windows machine with a virus, slow response to keys. Then Mail would load and spontanaeously quit before showing any mail. Workround was to come off line, load mail, resulted in beach ball for a few seconds, then old mail displayed. Go back online, all well. No idea of cause, only things I had done were a hard drive install with backup from Time capsule. Not long after, Mac office 08 installed (needed it for work, especially Excel). Anyhow, advised check on CPU hog but really couldn't see one. Things settled on the slow response to keyboard/mouse, mail issues persisted but workable. Installed the latest OS update, 10.5.3. Now any programme that goes on line spontaneously aborts and quits (Safari/Skype/software updates etc. Clicking onto an url in an email sometimes, not always, causes mail to quit.
Never really had to look under the hood of a Mac OS, no idea what is awry.
If I revert back to a previouis state from a TC backup, assume I'd loose any new applications I'd loaded (bought the Mac bundle with Awaken etc in it, no hassle top reinstall). Assume all data currently stored would be left intact. Or is there something else I need to try - afraid very clueless as to how to proceed. Local network seems fine, onyX didn't help.
