Online vs in-store pickup

I tried ordering the macbook pro w/ retina right when the apple online store opened, but the education discount was being wacky . So it ended up taking an extra hour and a half or so. I'm debating whether I should cancel my order and try in store. What do you think? If it does become available for in-store pickup, is it a guarantee that it will be there?

I for one would like to know if I order it for in store pick-up if that's like ordering it online and having it shipped to the store or if it's guaranteeing that the next one like it to come into the store inventory is mine.

For the few stores that are offering "in store pick-up" it looks like they're just shipping it to the store and you pick it up there. Most that offered earlier today said it would be available July 20th. I have a feeling you will be easily able to get one by walking into a store long before then.
