only 1 number for each contact imported from old sim?

Sorry, that's the way it works. When transferring contacts from SIM card to iPhone 3G, only the first number listed for each contact will be transferred to the new device. If any secondary numbers are listed under a contact they will not be transferred.
It would be best to use another method to transfer your contacts. What type of phone are you currently trying to migrate to the iPhone?
