Only Adults 21 and Up can Preorder iPad? (Updated)

I was paying attention to my tracking information on the FedEx site and saw that you must be 21 to sign for the iPad package. That sounds crazy to me. Luckily i'm old enough but what about young people that can have a credit card or debit card and were able to preorder? Will these people not be able to receive their iPad?

I would imagine the delivery driver, will gauge if the person at the door is at least 18 (I know it says 21) and appears to be in the least bit, responsible and deliver the iPad.

But I could be way off...

Not that you can't order them, just that you have to have somebody over 21 to sign...I doubt you will have a problem on delivery day..The driver is unlikely to check.

I'm 55, no issue tomorrow....

I've never been ID'd for a package, ever, despite it saying somebody 18+ needs to sign for it. I remember signing off on my iPhone 3GS when I was 16. No problems.

I don't think people should get worried about this.

This is the only tracking information I've seen that has the 21 (like it's alcohol).

Mine says indirect signature required, which even means a neighbor can sign for it and someone below 18 at the main address.

I'm 18. The package is under my name along with the credit card I used to pay. There's is absolutely no reason why I shouldn't be able to sign but if FedEx gives me a hard time, I'm definitely going to be upset.

Usually it just says indirect signature which means anyone in the house can sign. However this time it says adult signature.

My bet is 99% of drivers will delivery to whoever opens the door, most others wouldn't question as long as the person looked at least 18 and decent. Only the new drivers who haven't yet had to reattempt 3 times would go on that 21 thing.

My UPS guy knows me by my first name....He will say something like "More Apple Stuff" Hold out the hand held signature machine, and hand me my boxes...Not in their interests to bring stuff back to the depot...More paperwork...I doubt FedEX would be any different.

I don't know how they can legally prohibit people under 21 to not be allowed to sign. I was living on my own by age 19-20. I had no one 21 available to sign things for me. I think this ridiculous. I knew a guy I worked with how moved out at 17 (when he graduated high school) and lived on his own.

With as busy as they may be on Friday, I highly doubt the drivers will "card" every household. BTW, I am 40 and still get carded whenever I buy alcohol.

Update

I just finished talking with my local Fedex man. Just took possession of my new Apple TV. It looks like Apple made a mistake with the adult signature and Fedex is aware of this. He believes that at least our local Omaha Fedex will be handling Apple shipments as an indirect signature requirement instead of the adult signature.

Mine says "indirect signature", so apparently only some have this 'issue'.

It's probably because historically the iPad is used to watch porn excessively

Mine says "Standard Overnight - Adult Signature Required" too. The link to Track Shipment from the Apple store allows me to pre-sign for delivery and I did that but FedEx's page says nothing about being able to do that. I hope I'm okay with the pre-signed release tomorrow.
