oops! hosed... help!

i just f*cked up my phone. i was in SSH, and i think i moved a folder from one place to another, root level. unintended, it happened fast.

anyway to find a list of where things go (i know, it would be a BIG list);
at least, what the ROOT level of the iphone (3gs) would look like.
or...could someone do a snapshot and post it?

if i can find the moved file, i can put things right.

right now, i'm getting error 0xE8000068 in itunes, and can only get to the emergency screen on my phone...

:(

guess i gotta slow down...

Sounds like you'd be better off doing a restore.
 
i can follow the instructions at the top of this forum?

just...if i could figure out which file is missing from the root level of my phone...i could move it back...

Instructions:

Step 1: Make sure your SHSH are saved by opening Cydia, and looking at the top of the homescreen.

Step 2: Download firmware for your device. http://www.iclarified.com/entry/index.php?enid=750

Step 3: Edit your hosts file to include this line:
74.208.10.249 gs.apple.com
On Windows: Open Notepad as an administrator. The hosts file is in windows\system32\drivers\etc\ The file does not have an extension, so change option to All Files to find it. For mac, go here: http://www.iclarified.com/entry/index.php?enid=7556

Step 4: Open itunes, click your iphone, hold shift (option for mac) and click restore. Find your firmware and perform the restore. If your hosts file was edited right, and your SHSH backed up, iTunes will receive authorization and proceed with restore.
 
hmmm...my root folder looks like the photo above (plus i have a lot of loose files as pictured). should those files be somewhere?? (i didn't put them there)...

will try a restore (sigh)... thanx all!

couple of tries, but says it's restoring (to 4.0.1).
will report back, then...gonna spend the rest of the day getting things back!

ugh. but could be worse, i could be restoring to a NON-JB experience..

any idea how long this would take? seems my phone is stuck about 4-5ths in... (the progress bar seems to have stopped moving).

can i go and start again?

This process only has to do with the very beginning when iTunes verifies the restore with apple. These instructions make it so iTunes verifies with cydias server instead. The rest of the process is up to iTunes. If it does hang up you'll have to try again.

i seem to be back (at 4.0.1); do i just go back to jailbreakme.com and go from there?

That was a response to your post when it wasn't working. You edited it to say all is well as I posted that. I edited mine to say you're good to go.
 
3 hours since this started...am pretty good. fortunately, i saved all my changed files, custom themes, icons, tweaks on my mac. have been ssh'ing furiously...:D
 
Thats good news.

I had to do a restore a couple of weeks ago when my phone got stuck on the apple logo.

It's good to have all your tweeks/themes ready so you can easily pop them back on the phone after a restore.

Look at it this way, you've been through hell and back with your phone so next time it won't be so bad...
