Open File dialogue -- customize view?

When I go File > Open File from any application in 10.5.5, the dialogue window (in List View) only has Name and Date Modified columns and there seems to be no way to customize that view to add other columns like size, version, kind, etc.. When navigating directories normally, I can right-click on one of the column headers and select Show View Options.

Is there any way to customize the columns in List View (my preferred view) for the Open File dialogue?
