When I click a link that opened in a new window (such as a link to a new thread here I get e-mailed to me, when I open that e-mail in Gmail and click the link, it opened the thread in a new window.

Is there any way to get it to open in a tab in the same window? There was a setting for that in IE, but I can't find it on my new iMac.

Thanks!

By the way, it's been about 2 weeks now and I love my MAC even more!

Thanks for that reply!

I have that exact option checked.

However, links from inside Safari are still opening in a new window. Links from other applications are opening in a new tab in the current window like it's supposed to, just not links from Safari.

I guess when the webpage has it coded to open in a new window, Safari follows that code. If someone finds a work-around, please let me know!

Here you go ... open up Terminal and paste:

Code:
defaults write com.apple.Safari TargetedClicksCreateTabs -bool true

I did as you said, but the links are still opening in a new window.

After I paste that string into Terminal I just pressed Enter then closed Terminal. Is there something else I should have done?

That's horrible.

Did you restart Safari?

Firefox isn't horrible, telling me to use a different program instead of finding the solution to my problem (as r.j.s did, thanks again!) was horrible!

lol im sorry. it was intended as a joke. its like when people ask me questions about how to fix their PC, i just say "get a mac":p
