Is open office compatible with microsoft office?
What I mean is whether I can open microsoft office files
on Open Office and edit?
Would my Open Office files be able to open on Office?
Do you guys recommend it over Office?
Does it lack key features that office has? Specifically word.

As long as you choose to save as a .doc file from OpenOffice, it will open in Office (as vice-verses). There's a few features that aren't compatible, but for most people things will open between the two apps seamlessly. I use OpenOffice at home because it's free, but at work we have MS Office.
