I am about to download Libre Office on my MBP with Mojave. I assume it will run properly. Also can I assume that Libre will have no issue dealing with odt and ods files created on Open Office? The reason I'm leaning towards Libre is that Open suggests it's not quite ready for Mojave.

You should be fine. I have used LibreOffice for years and years with no problems opening .odt or .ods files. Those formats are my preferred choice.
