Hi,

I need to open a few Pages files but I don't have Pages installed on this computer. I understand you can convert Pages files to .doc or .pdf within the application, but unfortunately I won't have access to the computer with the program installed for a while.

Is there some sort of (free) converter that can convert .pages files to .doc or .pdf or even .rtf?

Or even better, a document creator/viewer than can open .pages files?

I am on a Mac; thanks!

There isn't any converter or viewer for Pages files, although an expired installation of the iWork trial will become a viewer.

Your best bet is to Control- or right-click on the Pages document & show package contents. In the QuickLook folder is a Preview.pdf. Of course, this will only be there if the author of the Pages document has "include Preview in document" enabled in Preferences.

If you don't get the option to show package contents the file was saved as a flat file (new in iWork '09). I haven't tried it myself, but I've read that if you change the extension on the document from .pages to .zip it will become a zip file you can unzip to a folder containing that pdf.

I had this problem recently and discovered that the iPhone is able to open .pages documents in email attachments. This would work if cutting/pasting text is all you need. If you need formatting or this is a large document, this isn't such a great solution.

Genius, I love you.

Thanks PeggyD! You're a star - there when I needed one!

:)
