I was curious about performance times for openShiiva. For those who don't know, shiiva converts a de-css'd *.vob to *.mp4. On my eMac 700 G4 with 640 MB RAM (pc 100) it takes about 8 hours to do a 2 hour movie.

Post your times along with system config.

Also, does anyone have a faster way to do this?

FYI: you can get openshiiva FREE on versiontracker. It can lock up in panther though. Jag had no problems.

Actually, I'd think that those times are pretty good--I experimented with Shiiva while trying to come up with a good video compressor, and I would've stuck with it except the PC users I was targeting had problems with the AAC audio it used.

I was getting much better compression speed out of Shiiva than with ffmpeg, which (using XviD) takes about 8 hours for 25 minutes of video on a DP 533, for example.

I seem to remember Shiiva being in the vicinity of 2 to 3 times faster.
