Somewhere but not here.
Hi

I'm developing an app that would require a barcode scanner. Which open source barcode scanner would you recommend?

i have a few choices like zxing, zbar etc.

i have an iTouch 4 for testing (right now) so would prefer somethign that would work on that.

pic2shop does work on that and so does redlaser but both charge for licensing.

Thanks!

Did some research and installed few barcode scanners into my iTouch 4. Here's what i think:

Zxing: Works well. Completely free. but is only for QR codes.

zBar: Works reasonably well (should work better on an iPhone 4). Fully free.

VSBarcode Scanner: works very well on even the iTouch 4. But here's the catch. to use it in an app, you need to pay license. you can use their web app for free but that just installs the pic2shop app on the iPhone.

scannerKit: again works very well on the iTouch 4. But need to pay for usage in an app.

Redlaser: works smooth but very expensive license.

dont know much about these, but heres a suggestion.
Use a free one, and if your app receives a lot of attention, you can pay for a better one and release an update with it.
